When I was a child my school insisted on everyone playing a musical instrument. It was a traditional school so there was no chance of playing the electric guitar or drums, orchestra music was the order of the day.
Those with musical talent were already playing the more popular instruments such as the piano, but the school were short of brass band musicians and so I was given a trumpet. As I look back my parents must have had the patients of saints as I tried to master tunes such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for the Christmas performance.
The other day my daughter came home from school and said she wanted to learn a musical instrument. It made me recall my school days and when, later that day, I read the HMRC 2008/09 SA filing statistics I thought it was time to blow that trumpet again.
There were just over 6.4 million returns submitted electronically in the period to 31 January with 4.5 million of these submitted via the 15 SA software providers. CCH Software is so widely used that nearly 1/5th of returns came via our software. But it isn't the number of returns that is important, it is the quality of the data provided, the success rate. CCH Personal Tax is designed to ensure accuracy in the data when it is entered. This not only ensures any reporting undertaken is accurate but more importantly saves rework when submitting the return, an added time cost that can easily eat into the compliance work profit. I'm pleased that over the year as a whole we achieved a success rate of 98.4%, with 2009 v3 reaching nearly 99%. When you compare this to HMRC's own system's success rate of 98.2% and the other software suppliers of 97.2% it's clear Personal Tax can bring efficiencies to your business.
CCH PerTAX and CCH Taxpoint both received good filing success rates but not, as you would expect, to the level of CCH Personal Tax. If you have not already done so I would urge you to upgrade and maximise the efficiency savings the product offers.
If you would like to discuss your upgrade, please contact your account manager or email
