More and more practices have now upgraded to the new .NET version of PerTAX, so we’ve asked a number of them to tell us about their experiences, and this month we bring you the first two case studies.
“Although we’re in the early stages of implementation, we’re already seeing benefit from PerTAX08.”
“Feedback from staff has been very positive – they find it easy to use and very pleasant to work with. Partners and managers particularly like the Workflow system, and the way you can assign tasks and manage work from beginning to end. At the moment we’re using it simply to keep track of what everyone is doing, but in the future we’ll be using it to delegate tasks and monitor progress.”
“The error and exception reporting is very helpful. In the past, if people didn’t have the required information they might just enter a full stop into a field in order to complete the return. Now, missing data – such as a date of birth or an NI number – is highlighted, and you’re prompted to complete it properly.”
“Previously, the firm had five dedicated tax staff. Now all 35 staff will be completing basic tax returns and the tax department will concentrate on the more complex work, such as for partners or overseas residents. The new security features and the Workflow system in PerTAX08 will help us put this major change into operation.”

“We’d been using PerTAX for many years so the prospect of changing to a ‘new’ system was initially quite daunting. But, having started to use PerTAX08 a couple of months ago, I can honestly say that switching over is going to be well worthwhile.”
“We’ve seen a number of immediate benefits from using the new software, many of which are to do with making things easier and saving time. For example, we can now drill up from a data input field to the SA100 to see which box on the form a figure will appear in. This has been particularly useful this year with the redesign of the SA100 by HMRC – it’s helped us get to grips more quickly with the new form.”
“Even simple changes can make a lot of difference. For instance, inbuilt data validation now prevents you from entering incorrect information, such as an accounting period of more than 18 months. The drop-down list for entering CO2 emissions is very handy, and the simplified data input fields reduce the amount of time we spend processing clients’ tax return information.”
“We’re saving even more time because PerTAX08 and VPM are now linked through Central. Not only do we save time setting up and maintaining clients, Central also allows us to run reports and extract data across different applications within the MYOB suite.”
